This year make your Halloween a shade greener.  Below are a few easy tips to help your Halloween celebration be more eco-friendly.

Candy, Candy, Candy….

What else would we start with?  Select from organic and fair trade chocolate to Jelly Belly’s made from real fruits. You can treat your sweet tooth without the chemical dyes for flavor and color.  Check out 5 green candy items from Planet Green.

Pass on Plastic….

When gathering all those goodies forego the plastic bag.  Collect all that candy in a reusable bag.  If you are hosting an event replace all the disposable plastic cutlery and cups with some biodegradable options.

Local Pumpkins…..

Trim your pumpkin’s transportation miles by buying your pumpkin locally.  By purchasing a pumpkin from a local farmer or farmer’s market you’ll directly reduce the energy it takes to transport that pumpkin to your doorstep and boost your local agriculture economy.  To find a vendor near you check out Local Harvest.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle….

Be resourceful when planning your Halloween night.  Look to reduce your waste by limiting the number of decorations around the house.  Purchase pieces of your costume that can be reused again and recycle whatever you can.

Happy Halloween Everyone!
