The National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) and the U.S Department of Energy (DoE) have launched a new interactive mapping application for alternative fuel and vehicle use across the country.  The application, TransAtlas, allows users to find fueling stations for alternative fuels and geographically track where certain types of alternative fuel vehicles are owned in abundance.

The TransAtlas tool allows users to customize alternative fuel information by simply checking on a box in the legend.  One or more types of fuels can be shown, including stations that dispense biodiesel, compressed or liquefied natural gas, E85, hydrogen, propane and electricity.

“What is unique about this website is the bringing together of so many types of alternative fuel data into one place.  Establishing a national network of fueling stations, fuel production facilities, and transportation infrastructure is essential to the successful implementation of alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles.” said Dennis Smith, National Clean Cities Director at the DoE.

While it is an application of Google Maps, it is interesting to see the alternative fuel infrastructure across the country.
